5-for-5 Day for Martinez Monday, June 15th , 2076 The Saint Paul Incas downed the East Lansing Mighty Gulls 7-4 today at Saint Paul Grounds, in spite of the best efforts of East Lansing center fielder Angel Martinez. Martinez lashed the ball all over the park in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with a 5-for-5 line -- and a loss. "I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," he said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter." Asked if he would adjust his strategy next time the Incas face Martinez, Saint Paul manager said "absolutely not." "Our strategy was to not give him good pitches to hit," he said. "We didn't do that, and he worked us over. Thankfully, we won anyway, and next time we'll pitch to him better." Angel Martinez doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. So far this season Martinez is batting .291 with 9 home runs, 17 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has 51 hits in 175 at-bats, 18 walks and a .371 OBP. Martinez has played in 49 games. View Boxscore |
