Hersey, Thunderbirds Shut Out Athletics, 7-0 Thursday, August 29th , 2080 John Hersey kept the opposition off the scoreboard and the Phoenix Thunderbirds were all smiles after winning, 7-0, against the Kansas City Athletics at Legednary Park. The right-handed Hersey gave up no runs in his start, permitted 4 hits, and tallied 12 strikeouts. "If there was a stat for 'team shutout,' this would be it," Hersey said later. "My catcher called a great game, guys delivered at the plate and when I messed something up the guys behind me were where they needed to be." To date this season, Hersey sports a 10-10 mark with a 4.62 ERA in 28 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .255 batting average and has 139 strikeouts in 156 innings.
