Zero Hour: Hersey Blanks Vikings Thursday, June 6th , 2080 John Hersey subdued the Minneapolis Vikings, 4-0, pitching a 5-hit gem for the Phoenix Thunderbirds at Legednary Park. "He was kind of teasing them with his off-speed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," Phoenix skipper Joe Busch said. Hersey registered 14 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in his superb performance. "We just didn't swing the bats very well. Or else he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said Minneapolis manager Ace Cooan after the defeat. So far this season, Hersey has compiled a 6-6 record with a 5.71 ERA.
