The home crowd came to cheer on their first-place Miami Cyclones.

The Miami Cyclones withstood an impressive performance by Santiago shortstop Luis Valera to defeat the Avispas, 8-5, at Kroger Stadium. Valera went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Miami pitcher Anton Rochambeau earned the win, hiking his record to 3-0. Volk Miller suffered the loss.

Early in the game, third baseman Henry McAfee had a 2-run home run for Miami. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Cyclones on top, 2-0.

"We came out with clear minds and swung the bats well," said Miami manager Chris Stephan.

The Cyclones, at 14-3, have a record worth flaunting.
