Brooklyn beat Portland on the strength of starting pitcher Slider Brooks's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 6-1. Portland now is 6-5.

Brooks, who leaned on his fastball, allowed no runs on just 2 hits over 7.1 innings for the Browns. For the most part, Portland hitters were simply overmatched.

"Slider did what Slider does," said Brooklyn manager Jason Cormier.
