Avispas Drop Browns, 4-2, with Late Score
|
The Santiago Avispas took Brooklyn pitcher Keaton Bozek's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Brown Town. The final score had Santiago getting past the Browns, 4-2. Bozek went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 6. Buddy Verveer, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on no hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. With the win, Santiago elevates its record to 5-3.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Mike Leslie? The 25-year old first baseman Leslie stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put Santiago up, 3-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Leslie said after the game.
