Saint Paul Shuts Out Madison Behind Eligio, 1-0
Thursday, August 3rd , 2084
Ricky Eligio of the Saint Paul Incas was on top of his game.
The 23-year-old tantalized the Madison Sky Warriors with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.
"He had the changeup working," Madison manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Saint Paul hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Eligio told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
So far this year, Eligio has 7 wins and 2 losses and a 1.50 ERA.
