Guardino Socks It to Polecats, Cracks 5 Hits
Saturday, June 3rd , 2084
Baton Rouge left fielder Travis Guardino had a fantastic day at the plate at Ballpark of Mastic Beach, knocking out 5 hits and pacing his club to a win, 12-1.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Guardino said after his 5-for-6 performance against the Polecats. "No offense meant to Mastic Beach, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid park, it was Ballpark of Mastic Beach."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the left fielder's improvements, saying Guardino spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Guardino said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Travis Guardino struck out in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
This year, Guardino is batting .324 with 58 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 25 times and has batted in 31 runs.
