Super Swinger -- Podewils Slams 5 Hits Wednesday, July 25th , 2085 Cincinnati second baseman Jon Podewils had a big day at Birds Ballpark against the Honolulu Axemen. The 21-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-5 and led to the 14-5 Birds triumph over Honolulu. "Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Podewils said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all." Jon Podewils singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Cesar Cordova in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Willie Alvarado in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 7th. So far on the season, Podewils is hitting .256 with 11 home runs, 36 RBIs and 43 runs scored. He has 90 hits and played in 92 games. View Boxscore |
