Mills Crafts 1-0 Shutout
Thursday, May 17th , 2085
Dave Mills of the Fremont Leeches was on top of his game.
The 27-year-old tantalized the Tulsa Metalheads with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.
"He had the changeup working," Tulsa manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Fremont hurler had 11 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 6 hits in his complete-game effort.
Mills told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year, Mills has fanned 49 in 53.2 innings and collected a 5-1 record with a 3.19 ERA.
