Brett Wagner Drills 3 HR in One Game Tuesday, June 25th , 2086 His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Brett Wagner swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Ballpark of Genoa, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Quahog Players were better. The Anchorage Homesteads couldn't capitalize on the big game from Wagner and dropped the contest, 9-6. The mood in the Homesteads clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Players to spoil the day for Wagner. "Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," Anchorage manager said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level." In addition to the homers, Wagner collected 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the Anchorage right fielder told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3." Brett Wagner grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Greg Ganey in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Mike Gonzales in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Nees van Santen in the 9th. Thus far this year, Wagner has hit .272 with 8 home runs and 29 RBIs. |
