They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 5-0. Saint Petersburg managed only 8 hits off Espiricueta, who had 5 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Espiricueta got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
