Pels Pitches Blackbirds to Shutout Victory Saturday, July 16th , 2078 Vito Pels held the St. Louis Hammers to 5 hits and fashioned a fine 4-0 shutout at Ballpark of St. Louis. Speaking after the game, Shreveport Blackbirds manager said "Pels had everything going for him today. He changed speeds effectively, stayed down, had a lot of movement. He was masterful." Pels rung up 5 strikeouts and surrendered 1 walk in the game. "We couldn't get anything going. He certainly had our number," St. Louis manager told reporters. On the season, Pels has compiled a 9-5 mark with a 2.90 ERA in 18 starts. In pitching 136.1 innings he has 110 strikeouts and 25 walks while limiting the opposition to a .218 batting average.
