Sugimoto Sharp in 2-0 Shutout
Saturday, July 9th , 2078
Satoru Sugimoto of the Gilbert Bulldozers was on top of his game.
The 19-year-old tantalized the Trois-Rivieres Aquanauts with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.
"He had the changeup working," Trois-Rivieres manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Gilbert hurler had 4 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 6 hits in his complete-game effort.
Sugimoto told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
During this season, Sugimoto has no relief appearances and registered 0 saves. Batters are hitting him at a .255 rate and his season record is 2-10 with a 4.35 ERA. He has logged 113.2 innings and struck out 82.
