Ventura Electric in 2-0 Win
Sunday, July 7th , 2080
Manny Ventura of the Paradise Gecko was on top of his game.
The 19-year-old tantalized the Louisville Stompers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.
"He had the changeup working," Louisville manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Paradise hurler had 12 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Ventura told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year, Ventura has a 4-1 mark in 4 starts with a 2.22 ERA. He has given up 30 hits in 44.2 innings, struck out 48 and issued 8 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .188 batting average against him.
