Burke Hitless, Streak Ends at 20 Saturday, June 5th , 2083 It was the best of both worlds for the Paradise Gecko at Bucks Ballpark, as they defeated the Fairbanks Goldpanners, 8-3, and also snapped Glen Burke's 20-game hitting streak. The 21-year-old Fairbanks second baseman failed to get a hit in 5 at-bats. "Nothing personal against Burke, we just wanted to win the game," said Gecko skipper . "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing." When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Burke frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won." For the season, Burke is hitting .292, batted in 24 runs with 8 home runs and 24 runs scored. |
