Vazquez Brilliant -- Fires No-Hitter
Monday, June 10th , 2080
The Montgomery Counts relied on no-hit stuff from starter Edwin Vazquez to defeat the Pawtucket Patriots, 5-0, at Counts Ballpark.
"It's quite a thrill," Vazquez told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the Alpha Conference records, he stopped Pawtucket cold and hitless, surrendering 4 walks and fanning 9 of the 34 batters he faced.
Montgomery manager was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Vazquez "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
This season, Vazquez has gone 5-3 with an ERA of 4.29, posting 80 strikeouts in 71.1 innings.
