Maarschalkerweerd Tags Thorns for 6 Hits
Sunday, July 24th , 2078
Saint Petersburg first baseman Mark Maarschalkerweerd could do no wrong in his team's 15-6 win over the Thorns, as he collected 6 hits.
"Things were in his favor in every one of his at-bats," Thorns skipper said to the press corps after the game. "He got hitters' counts."
Maarschalkerweerd agreed, saying that getting ahead early in the counts was "the key" to his game.
"Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit," he said. "You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
Mark Maarschalkerweerd singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Dan Atz in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This year, Maarschalkerweerd is hitting .328, produced 23 RBIs and 5 home runs, scored 55 times and gotten on base at a .393 rate.
