San Bernadino Stops Ekgart Hit Streak
Thursday, July 13th , 2079
For once, it was the Oxnard Tigercats picking up the slack for Leo Ekgart.
The club's "offensive catalyst," as Oxnard manager has frequently called him, went uncharacteristically silent and saw his 25-game hitting streak snapped by the San Bernadino Sun Devils. Ekgart was bailed out by the rest of the Tigercats, however, who stopped the Sun Devils, 4-1.
The 23-year-old left fielder finished the day 0-for-3, and told reporters at the postgame press conference that "everybody did their job but me."
"Not that it was a huge problem -- we still won the game," he said with a grin. "The streak was a good run though. I'll try to start another one tomorrow."
Thus far this season, Ekgart is hitting .364 with 2 home runs, 30 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 119 hits in 327 at-bats and has played in 78 games.
