Mendoza Booms 3 Homers Wednesday, July 17th , 2080 Philadelphia Spectres first baseman Sal Mendoza almost did it all. He sent three shots out of the ballpark, scored 3 times and drove in 7 runs and had 4 hits in 5 at-bats. The one thing he could not do, however, was lead the Spectres to victory. The San Antonio Angels escaped with the win, 12-7, despite being on the receiving end of the barrage from Mendoza. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't like hitting three homers, but losing takes a little glitter off the game," he admitted to BNN writers after the game. Sal Mendoza hit a two-run home run off Eduardo Escobar in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Eduardo Escobar in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Wiley Moore in the 9th. "When someone hits three home runs, you put yourself in a tough position to win," said Philadelphia manager Ryan Huff. "We were lucky to win this one. I don't think it matters how hard you throw, especially in the Eastern Conference. If you leave a ball out over the plate to good Rising Star League hitters, if they get a bead on you and you leave it over the middle, they're probably going to take a good hack at it." So far this year, Mendoza has 24 home runs and a .273 batting average. |
