Pantoja Packs a Wallop -- Hits 3 HR Against Vikings
Sunday, September 24th , 2073
Hitting three home runs in a game is usually something to celebrate, but there was no celebration to be found at Aetna Stadium after the hitting barrage from Javier Pantoja. The Tucson Toros dropped the contest 6-5 to the Minneapolis Vikings, leaving Pantoja with only a historical footnote as consolation.
Javier is blessed with a natural home run swing so he gets the ball up in the air real quickly," Tucson manager Rick Barnes said after the loss. "It's just a shame we couldn't win the game, too. I'm sure it spoils the day a little for him."
Along with putting three in the stands, Pantoja went 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"It's rare that you actually try to hit a home run," he told reporters after the game. "Mostly you'll fail if you really try to hit one, but today I tried on the last one."
Javier Pantoja hit a two-run home run off Willie Miramontes in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Willie Miramontes in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Keung King in the 10th.
Pantoja is currently batting .279 with 37 home runs and 98 RBIs.
