Twins Beat Senators, 3-0
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Cincinnati Grounds. But 24-year old left fielder Alex Sierra produced just enough offense to carry the Twins past the Washington Senators, 3-0. Sierra went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. Ernie Martinez earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. Phil Cromsie was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 9 of 11 save opportunities.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Twins had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when third baseman Motoji Fujimoto hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Xiong Loh and made the score 2-0, Twins. Fujimoto was 2-4 with 2 singles.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Fujimoto. "Just do my job."
The Twins saw their win-loss record go to 33-34. At the same time, the Senators fell to 28-38.
