Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Vikings
|
The Minneapolis Vikings defeated the Los Angeles Stars, 4-2, in Western Conference action at Stars Ballpark. Minneapolis pitcher Rafael Escobar had a standout performance. Billy Portillo, now 2-2, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Earning his 10th save of the year was Johnny Wickwire.
The outcome might have been different for Minneapolis, had it not been for Ian Sabre, the 27-year old first baseman . Sabre stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put Minneapolis up, 4-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I like to lead by example," said Escobar. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
With the win, the Vikings sit at 34-32.
