Friars Fall to Aquas, 5-4
|
Houston Aquas starter Ricky Zika pitched a strong game against the San Francisco Friars at Staples Field, leading the Aquas to victory, 5-4. The winner was Zika. He threw 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs. The loser was Lyalya Markosiants. Ron Gelsomino was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Craig Lightsey? The 25-year old third baseman Lightsey stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Houston up, 3-1. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
Houston manager Brandon Coroian was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
Houston occupies first place in the Western Conference Felipe Solorzo Division at 42-23.
