The Seattle Arrows defeated the Portland Dragons, 11-6, at Portland Park. Seattle left fielder Dave Rivera had a superb performance. He was 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 5. Huggy Bruce, the winner, goes to 3-6. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts over 6.1 innings. The second-place Arrows now have a record of 32-31.

With Seattle leading 5-1 in the top of the fourth, Rivera came up to bat against Portland pitcher Taxi Sabala. Rivera hit a forkball to right-center for a grand slam home run. His 14th home run of the season put the Arrows on top, 9-1.

"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Rivera told a local reporter after the game.
