The Washington Senators weathered an outstanding game by Cincinnati designated hitter Matt Lawson to topple the Twins, 5-4. Lawson was 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Julio Mendoza was called on to finish, recording his 13th save. With the win, the Senators have a record of 26-33.

Washington shortstop Steve Hemphill contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a sinker to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 27th hit of the season and put the Senators ahead, 3-1.

"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Hemphill told the Washington Observer. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
