Fading Kodiaks Lose 6th Straight
|
The Portland Dragons picked up a win at Portland Park, dropping the Alaska Kodiaks, 5-3. Cursive DeMarco, who is tied for 7th in the WC in strikeouts with 70, was the difference-maker. Justin Kurth, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-3. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 0.1 innings. The Dragons now have a record of 31-29 with the win over Alaska.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Evan Salimbene came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Alaska pitcher Eddie Izurieta, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Portland on top, 4-3.
"Cursive gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said Portland skipper Greg Carpenter.
