Vikings Drop 6-2 Decision to Thunderbirds
|
The rain did not keep Phoenix and Minneapolis from finishing their game.
Starting pitcher John Hersey took care of business, helping the Phoenix Thunderbirds stifle the Minneapolis Vikings, 6-2. In 5.2 innings, Hersey surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs.
Dermott Vickars had a big 2-run double for the Thunderbirds in the bottom of the first inning. With Phoenix leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Richard Samayoa, who finished 3rd in the WC in innings pitched with 214.0 in 2069, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunderbirds ahead, 4-0.
"I thought we played a nice game," Vickars told the Phoenix Observer. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The third-place Vikings have dropped 5 straight games.
