Gaedels Earn 6-2 Home Win
|
Behind a solid performance from catcher Kanehisa Nishimoto, the St. Louis Gaedels defeated the Washington Senators, 6-2. Nishimoto was 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Gaedels. Travis Morris was the winning pitcher. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with no walks and 2 strikeouts. The win gives St. Louis a season record of 31-27.
Jorge Santiago's at-bat in the bottom of the second inning was a big one for St. Louis. Coming to bat with two out, runners on 2nd and 3rd and St. Louis trailing 1-0, the shortstop reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run.
"Kanehisa leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said St. Louis manager Mak Dolnick.
