Senators Jolt Gaedels, 4-3, with Late Rally
|
Washington pitcher Jose Nereida did his part in helping his team beat the St. Louis Gaedels, 4-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Keung King earned the save, his 12th, for the Senators. The win puts the Senators at 24-34, while the Gaedels drop to 25-32.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Eddie Leahy? The 23-year old catcher Leahy stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put Washington up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
St. Louis manager Mak Dolnick said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
