Alaska Kodiaks starter Will Spangenberg turned in a sterling performance against the Portland Dragons, leading his team to a slim, 1-0 win. Spangenberg, now 6-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Jeff Amendola earned the save for Alaska, his 5th of the year.

The Kodiaks got a big at-bat from third baseman Gabe Castro. For the game, Castro was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. In the bottom of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Alaska a 1-0 lead.

Alaska manager Alex King commended his team for "bagging a nice win."

The Kodiaks go to 28-30, putting them 4th in the Western Conference John Sexton Division.
