Toros Beat Athletics, 6-4
|
The Tucson Toros defeated the Kansas City Athletics, 6-4, at Aetna Stadium. Tucson center fielder Najib Tawfiq had a superb performance. He went 2-4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Ryan Steckler notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-1. Jose Zavala recorded his 14th save for Tucson.
In the bottom of the sixth, Tucson left fielder Javier Pantoja hit a two-strike fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It put the Toros up, 6-4.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Pantoja told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
Tucson now owns a record of 29-28.
