Gaedels Turn Back Washington, 5-3
|
The St. Louis Gaedels knocked off the Washington Senators, 5-3, at Veeck Park. Zounes Kamuzu was a big reason St. Louis won. The designated hitter was 2-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Andres Anguiano earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. The Gaedels, now 4-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
With St. Louis trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Kamuzu hit a changeup from Bobby Jaramillo for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Gaedels ahead, 3-1.
"It's better to burn out than to rust," said the ageless Kamuzu.
