Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Eagles, 7-5
|
With starter Manny Damian leading the charge, the Pittsburgh Eagles defeated the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 7-5, in Game 5 of the League Championship today. The right-hander threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball at Ballpark of Pittsburgh to help Pittsburgh take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-9 series.
In the bottom of the fifth, José Lacau delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Pittsburgh first baseman hit a 2-run double, putting the Eagles in front, 7-5.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Pittsburgh manager Matthew McExpos told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Pittsburgh. Slated to start are Joe Quarterman for Phoenix and Luis Tamez for Pittsburgh.
