Almost There: San Francisco On Cusp of DS Triumph After 5-2 Win
|
The San Francisco Friars moved to within one game of the Conference Championship, downing the San Antonio Angels on the road at Tesoro Stadium by a score of 5-2. Friars right-hander Doug Lovelace had a strong outing. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gives the Friars a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.
San Francisco used the hitting of Leonilde Tigre to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Friars on top, 3-2. For the game, Tigre had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Tigre said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Staples Field in San Francisco.
