Chicago Takes Divisional Series
|
The Chicago Phantoms didn't hold back their excitement after beating the Portland Dragons in the Divisional Series tonight.
Members of the team rushed onto the field and celebrated joyously when the victory became official, with a 7-1 win moving the club on to the Conference Championship, clinching a 4-1 series win in front of the Portland Park crowd.
"This isn't the big one, but of course we need to get through this before we can win a League Championship, so it's an important step," said Mike Matoska as he took a break from celebrating. "Our guys are happy and excited to be moving on."
Matoska was named series MVP, as he hit .412 with a .524 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 5 runs.
On the other side of the diamond, there was desolation. Many members of the Dragons sat stone-faced in their dugouts, simply watching Chicago celebrate.
The Chicago Phantoms don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Denver Glaciers - Los Angeles Stars series. Los Angeles leads the series 3 games to 2. The Conference Championship schedule will be announced after the Divisional Series finishes.
