Riding the 5-hit performance of center fielder Rio Matthews, the Los Angeles Stars stopped the visiting Portland Dragons, 11-5, in Game 2 of the Conference Championship today. Matthews was 5 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times for the Stars, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.

Eloy Laca dealt the Dragons a blow in the bottom of the first. Batting with a runner on 1st and Los Angeles leading 1-0, Laca, who finished 5th in the WC in batting average with .310 in 2077, hit a first pitch curveball for a run-scoring triple.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Pat Kaers said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Portland Park in Portland.
