Glaciers Heading to Conference Championship
|
Denver third baseman Walter Gravel couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the Divisional Series.
"It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Gravel moments after his club eliminated the Los Angeles Stars to advance to the Conference Championship.
Denver won the final game by a score of 5-3 at Mountain Dew Park and took the series 4-1.
"We won the series and that's the main thing," Gravel said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted."
For the series, Gravel hit .300 with a .318 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 3 runs.
"He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected Los Angeles manager Pat Kaers.
The Denver Glaciers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the San Antonio Angels - San Francisco Friars series. San Francisco leads the series 3 games to 1. The Conference Championship schedule will be announced after the Divisional Series finishes.
