The Baltimore Kings earned a win at Veeck Park, knocking off the St. Louis Gaedels, 2-1. On the bump for Baltimore was left-hander Adrian Portuondo. He had a starring role in the triumph. The win went to Barnes Boerma in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Jesus Ortiz took the loss. Andy Mejia, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 5th save.
Baltimore relied on the bat of Reinier Martinez to get the win. The third baseman produced a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put the Kings ahead, 2-1. For the game, Martinez had 1 double and 1 home run in 3 at-bats.
"Adrian did a tremendous job," said Baltimore manager Brad Carpenter.
Baltimore is now 31-25, St. Louis 29-27.
