Pond Helps Toros Win, 5-3, with Pair of Homers
|
Tucson second baseman Ralph Pond had a 3-RBI performance, which helped his team down the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 5-3. The winning pitcher was Dunieski Vazquez. He tossed 93 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Tucson is in last place in the Western Conference Brian Boots Division with a record of 24-32.
With Tucson leading 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Pond hit a knuckle curve from Matt Nyholm for a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Toros ahead, 4-0.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Pond told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
