Dragons Drop Destroyers, 4-3
|
A 3-RBI performance from first baseman Xadreque Esperana, who finished 2nd in the EC in slugging percentage with .653 in 2076, led the Portland Dragons to a win over the San Diego Destroyers, 4-3. The winning pitcher was Yahya Kanoro. He's now 5-4. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits for the Dragons. Wil Campos locked down his 3rd save.
Esperana contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Portland in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Esperana took a knuckle curve from Yaciel Cusido and stroked the home run to right. His 10th home run of the season allowed the Dragons to leap in front, 4-3.
Portland manager Greg Carpenter was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
The defeat makes San Diego 31-26.
