The Phoenix Thunderbirds topped the Minneapolis Vikings, 6-4, with catcher Tony Tovar playing a big role. Tovar went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Thunderbirds in the win. Picking up the win was Bobby Sanchez. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The left--hander struck out 3 and walked 2. The save went to Zach Baiza, number 17 for him.

Phoenix took the lead on Tovar's 5th home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which came against Slider Brooks in the bottom of the sixth, made the score 6-2, Phoenix.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Tovar said.

The 4th-place Thunderbirds lifted their record to 26-27.
