The Buffalo Rangers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Pablo Alvarez into a win. Instead, the Philadelphia Spectres prevailed, 3-2. Alvarez threw 6.0 innings of 1-hit ball. Philadelphia reliever Miguel Romero picked up the win, raising his record to 5-8. Earl Tessier was tagged with the loss. The Spectres, at 71-91, sit in last place in the Eastern Conference Benito Cossutta Division.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Colin Cuyler? The two-time Gold Glove Award winner Cuyler stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Philadelphia up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Alex Beckman.
