|
With designated hitter Alex Guilzar leading the charge, the Denver Glaciers defeated the San Diego Destroyers, 5-1, at Seaward Stadium. Guilzar, who is tied for 4th in the WC with a .409 on-base percentage, went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times. The winner in relief was Jorge Diaz. The left-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Earning his 8th save for Denver was James L'Hommedieu.
Alexjandria Leija dealt the Destroyers a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and Denver leading 2-1, Leija, who is tied for 9th in the WC in triples with 6, hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Glaciers manager Todd Bleess, "I like our chances."
With the victory, the Glaciers record stands at 84-78.
