Senators Deal Athletics 7-3 Loss
|
The Washington Senators downed the Kansas City Athletics, 7-3. The hitting star was catcher Lars Sebregts. Sebregts was 4-7 with a double, 3 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Senators. Victor Chavez, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The win lifted the Washington record to 29-23.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Chris Kill came to bat in the top of the 19th. Facing Kansas City pitcher Jim Schmitz, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Washington on top, 4-3.
"It was terrific getting this win," Sebregts said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
