Walk-Off Seals 89th Victory for Thunderbirds
|
Phoenix Thunderbirds starter Matt Nyholm pitched his team past the San Diego Destroyers in 10 innings, 3-2. The winner was Phoenix reliever Jesus Carbajal, now 6-5. The loser was Julio Olivo. With the victory, the Thunderbirds upped their record to 89-71.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the tenth for Phoenix. That's when Sem Vreke hit a run-scoring double off 24-year old right-handed pitcher John Huberty to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Phoenix manager Joe Busch said.
