Avispas Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Cyclones, 2-0
|
The Santiago Avispas had to overcome a good performance from Miami pitcher Anton Rochambeau to claim a 2-0 win at Kroger Stadium. Rochambeau went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs. The win went to Julius Miller in relief. His record improves to 9-7. Sergej van Anrooij took the loss. The Avispas, at 75-84, sit in 4th place in the Eastern Conference Antonio Detorres Division.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Paul Rees? The 24-year old left fielder Rees stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put Santiago up, 1-0. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"What we get, we earn," Rees told the Santiago Gazette.
