San Diego turned a fine outing from starter R.J. Mendenhall into a victory over the Kansas City Athletics at Ballpark of Missouri. The final score was 9-0. At 86-72, the Destroyers are currently second in the Western Conference Eric Wise Division.

San Diego used a timely hit from Carlos Reta to get the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Destroyers ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"I'm happy we won," said Mendenhall. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
