The Minneapolis Vikings got a stellar performance from pitcher Josh Hawes, who handcuffed the Tucson offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Minneapolis Grounds. Hawes got the win, improving to 13-8. He gave up 3 hits and walked 2 over 6.2 innings. He allowed no runs. Minneapolis has a record of 92-66, placing them second in the Western Conference Mike Stump Division.
Carlos Dorame had a big 3-run home run for the Vikings in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Minneapolis leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Miguel Moquete, who is a two-time All-Star, and punished it. The result was his 28th home run of the season, which put the Vikings on top, 4-0.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Minneapolis manager Ace Cooan. "It's usually not just one thing."
