Los Angeles Beats Phoenix in Extra Innings
|
The Los Angeles Stars needed 12 innings to beat the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 3-2, at Stars Ballpark. The win was due in part to first baseman Kamakana Aniani, who went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a walk. Los Angeles reliever Abdul-Qadir bin Sajid got the win, raising his record to 2-2. Forbes Kopecky was tagged with the loss. Los Angeles is now 69-87. Phoenix is 61-95.
Los Angeles got a knockout punch from Heyg Schmidt. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"You play a lot of one-run games," said Los Angeles skipper Pat Kaers, "and it seems there's one play somewhere in there that changes the game."
