Friars Score Late, Topple Phantoms, 7-2
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Chicago Phantoms and San Francisco Friars get after it.
The San Francisco Friars knocked off the Chicago Phantoms, 7-2, in Western Conference action at Staples Field. San Francisco pitcher and Guanare, Venezuela, native Armando Mata had an outstanding performance. The third-place Friars go to 77-79.
San Francisco took a 5-2 lead on Felix Perez's 34th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Perez hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Chicago pitcher Bill Snelgrove visibly frustrated.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said San Francisco manager Jeremy Cooan.
